Date:

The Education for Climate Coalition has launched its Call for Innovative Green Education Action Projects 2026, inviting students, educators, schools, institutions, organisations and other education stakeholders to share implemented climate and sustainability education projects. Selected projects will present in Brussels during Education for Climate Day 2026 and receive a fully funded visit, with the application deadline set for 6 September 2026.

Key facts

  • The call is open to a wide range of education stakeholders, including students, educators, schools, institutions and organisations.
  • Eligible projects must be based in and across a European Education Area country.
  • Education for Climate Day 2026 will take place on 22 October 2026.
  • The application deadline is 6 September 2026.
  • Three projects from each of three thematic areas will be selected to present their work in Brussels.

What does the call mean for students and education communities?

It gives students, educators and wider education groups a chance to showcase projects that already exist, not just ideas. The call is looking for concrete implementation, community impact and evidence such as materials, photos, videos and documents, so successful applicants may gain visibility for practical climate education work they have already carried out.

What kinds of projects are eligible?

The coalition says it wants real examples of green education action that have been implemented, are ongoing, or were recently completed within the last five years. Projects can be small or large, local or international, public or private, as long as they are based in the European Education Area and can show tangible evidence of activity.

Which themes are included in the call?

Applicants can choose from three thematic areas: youth leadership and intergenerational dialogue for climate action; citizenship education and institutional action for sustainability; and GreenComp-based teaching and learning focused on envisioning sustainable futures. Each theme asks applicants to show how learning connects to participation, practical action and sustainability competences.

How will applications be assessed?

Applications will first go through an eligibility check and then be reviewed on ambition, multidisciplinarity, participation, tangibility and community impact. Community impact carries extra weighting, and the overall evaluation can reach 52 points.

What should applicants show in a strong submission?

According to the call, stronger applications explain the problem addressed, who participated, what actions were taken, which GreenComp competences were used and what changed as a result. The coalition also wants projects to show how the work could be adapted by other education communities and how it benefits the wider community.

FAQ

Who can submit a project?

The call is open to students, educators, schools, education institutions, civil society organisations, companies, public institutions, researchers, cultural actors, non-formal education providers and other education stakeholders, including community organisations and partners involved in education and sustainability.

What do selected projects receive?

Three projects from each thematic area will be selected to present during Education for Climate Day 2026 in Brussels, and their representatives will receive a fully funded visit to the event.
